Explore Ecuador in 19 days
Arrive in Otavalo – Discover the indigenous arts and crafts market
On your first day you arrive in Otavalo, which is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in South America. It´s famous for its arts and crafts markets and weekly fiesta that celebrates the good commerce. Here you will meet local people at the indigenous craft market, buy handmade textiles and crafts and sample typical food. After exploring Otavalo you will have your first Spanish class in the afternoon.
Spiritual Peguche waterfalls – eucalyptus plantation – San Pablo Lake
After Spanish class in the morning, you will discover one spiritual place near Otavalo: the Cascadas de Peguche. These waterfalls are a famous a ceremonial center for ritual purification during the festival of the sun, which is called “Inti Raymi”. Members of the indigenous community take a bath there. Next you will take a walk through eucalyptus plantations and reach San Pablo Lake in the afternoon.
Hike around Cuicocha lake – Learn about local history – discover Cotacachi
Your third day starts with a strengthening breakfast to be ready for the trip from Otavalo to Lake Cuicocha. There you will take a hike around the beautiful lake and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. During lunch you´ll learn more about culture and local history of the nearby town Cotacachi, which is known for its leather products. To finish your day you´ll have some Spanish lessons in Otavalo.
Trip to Machachi - located in the central highlands, surrounded by beautifully volcanic peaks
Start with breakfast and then spend the morning in classes. Eat lunch and then departure to Machachi. Located in the central highlands, Machachi sits among beautifully quilted farmland, surrounded by volcanic peaks. It is also possible to to see the jagged peaks of the Ilinizas, which sometimes are snow covered. After arriving in the evening have dinner and relax for an adventurous day ahead.
Discover El-Boliche National Park – Learn more about native vegetation
On Friday you´ll start to El-Boliche National Park, where you explore Andean forest at its best. In this recreational area you learn more about the beautiful native vegetation. After lunch the hike finished in Machichi, where you have some Spanish lessons again. The rest of the day is yours!
Snack in Latacunga – go on to Chugchilán – enjoy Rio Toachi
After just an hour Spanish lesson the next exciting trip is waiting for you. You´ll stop for a little bite to eat at the idyllic Andrean village of Latacunga, before the group goes on to the mountainside town Chugchilán. Here you have a stunning view of the amazing Rio Toachi canyon. At the end of the day you´ll have again a few Spanish lessons.
Horse ride to Laguna Quliotoa – enjoy the view of Cotopaxi and Iliniza
There are some little differences today. Don´t worry – once again an adventure is waiting for you! But today you´ll take care of your feeds, because horses are picking you up. In a relaxing pace the group will arrive to the Quilotoa Languna. This stunning green lake will definitely be one of the most impressive you might ever see. Maybe you can also have a view of the snow-covered peaks of Cotopaxi and Iliniza, before there are some more Spanish classes.
Discover a sacred mountain – Have lunch in Riobamba
Today you will arrive Ecudar´s highest point: Chimborazo. For the local indigenous people it´s an sacred mountain. It is also the closest peak to the sun in the world. Nearby Riobamba the group will settle in, have lunch and get right into the Spanish language with classes programmed for the afternoon. After that you will take time for a rest and freetime acitivities.
Explore Riobamba – test your Spanish skills
You´ll go on with some Spanish lessons after a strengthening breakfast in the morning. After that it’s time to explore Riobamba! You will have an expedition to the town in the afternoon. Here you can test your newly acquired Spanish skills in conversation with the locals. In the later afternoon you will have lot of time for yourself again.
La Nariz del Diablo line – touch the sun on Chimborazo Volcano
There are two alternatives today. You can enjoy a rail adventure from Alausi to Simbambe and back with the La Nariz del Diablo line with plenty to see along the route. The other option offers you an adventure to the Chimborazo Volcano refuge, where you can try to reach the sun. Both trips will lead you back to Alausi for a delicious lunch and some afternoon classes.
Visit Baños – Take a glimpse of the Tungurahua – Rest and relax
Today you have to get up early, because another exciting excursion to Baños is coming! This town is located at the footsteps of Tungurahua volcano. It is known as gateway to the Amazon jungle and a popular place of pilgrimage. Here you have the opportunity to unwind, look around before you´ll have the next lesson in our Travelling Classroom across Ecuador.
Discover Pailon del Diablo – Bungee Jump
This trip will actually be an adventure: first you´ll take a cable car across the river to Pailon del Diablo. At this breathtaking majestic waterfall you can take a dip or – for particularly brave people- even go bungee jumping! Back in town the group will enjoy lunch and have some more Spanish lessons in the afternoon.
Spanish again! – Hike to Mirador – enjoy the view
After breakfast the 5th day goes on with Spanish classes. For that you´ll be rewarded by a nature hike after lunch. The road leads out on the outskirts of Baños, where the group will reach an amazing Mirador in the afternoon.
Relax in Baños – Swim in thermal pools – Chill out
After the last exciting days you surely need a break. Because of that you can chill out the whole day and spend free time on your own around the town. Here you can shop, treat yourself with a meal or drink and relax. Maybe you want to swim in the thermal pools near Baños, which are famous for their healing effects.
Trip to Misahualli – watch monkeys bouncing between trees
On the road again – the group head to Misahualli. This town rested on the shores of Rio Napo, which connects to the Amazon River. Here you´ll arrive mid-morning, so you´ll meet the local monkeys, which you can observe bouncing between the trees. In the afternoon there are Spanish lessons again.
Survival adventure – Jungle canoe tour – Tubing on Rio Napo
It´s adventure-time today! – Just a short Spanish lesson in the morning, then the road leads up to Rio Napo on a motorized canoe. Here you´ll have a guided tour through the wild jungle before you´ll jump in the river again for tubing. In the afternoon the group will visit a conservation zoo and take the rest of the day off.
Explore the jungle – beneath waterfalls – journey to Tena
A new day with many highlights! You´ll hike through the jungle in the morning and have the chance to take a bath beneath of a waterfall. Then you should pack your bags and prepare for the tour to Tena. Here you´ll have lunch and go on with Spanish lessons.
Visit historical Jumanday caves
It becomes dark, cool and moist on our next morning-activity. You´ll visit the famous historical Jumandy caves, which are named after the man who fought off the Spanish conquistadores. Back in Tena in the afternoon you´ll got Spanish classes again. After that you can explore the town and enjoy your free time until dinner.
Final in Papallacta – eat local fish – prepare for way back
It´s done – our adventure across Ecuador is drawing to an end. The last stop will be a fun-filled day in Papallacta in the Ecuadorian Sierra. Here you can take a dip in the cooling pools nearby and taste some delicious local trout. Then we go back to Quito.
